Crazy Quilt Vest

This was my first attempt at crazy quilting.  A vest on display by Creations at the Bead & Button show in Austin, TX a few years ago inspired me to take a try at crazy quilting.  The embellishments are little things I collected here and there.

 Crazy Quilt Dress

This crazy quilt dress is modeled by me!  I cut up a crazy quilt border print and crazy quilted it together with a blue crinkle for the dress bodice and pockets.  The sleeves are the border print uncut.  I did decorative stitches on all the crazy quilt seams by machine.  I also added a few pieces of velveteen and satin in the crazy quilt pieces.  On the velveteen pieces I did silk ribbon embroidery by hand.  The picture was taken by my friend Gloria in her fabric shop.  The fabric for the dress is from her shop "The Fabric Shop".

Crazy Quilt Pillow

For my dad who has everything including a bad back I made this crazy quilt pillow for Father's Day.  It is made from old ties I got at the thrift shop.  I kept the embellishing simple with only stitching with pearl cotton thread since this pillow would be used behind my dad's back and neck.

 Sampler Of Flowers Tuxedo Vest

This Tuxedo vest was what got me into silk ribbon embroidery and silk wire ribbon flowers.  I call this my "Sampler of Flowers".  I have my own Texas wildflower patch of bluebonnets on the lower right side.  The silk wire ribbon roses were made into pins so I can wear them on other garments also.

Something Fishy Vest

I made this vest for my daughter a few years ago.  She picked out 2 glass fish beads at the Bead & Button show in Austin, TX.  She was about 10 years old and had drawn the pictures of the appliqued fish.  I thought they were very good and used them for patterns.  All the beads around the shell appliques are sewn on by hand.  There is a sea green mesh fabric which covers the whole front of the vest to give it a special look all its own.  The center and far right pictures show closeups of the vest bottom .

Crazy Quilt Panel Vest

This is a partial view of the upper back crazy quilt panel of my Panel Vest by Judy Bishop.  I recently experimented with Procion Dyes and came out with some lovely colors on pieces of lace, trim, old table scarves, and old crochet doilies.  I couldn't resist adding several pieces of lace and doilies right over my fabrics and tacking them down with seed beads and by sewing into the seams.  Here you can see the teal large

wedding lace and the brownish crocheted doilies at the top corners that will be the shoulders.  The three ribbon flowers were hand dyed by putting the flowers upside down in a dish of dye.  The pictures below show a closeup of the silk wired ribbon roses on the back of my vest.  Other pictures also show parts of the back of the vest.

Princess Diana Crazy Quilt Blocks

Here are two of my Princess Diana blocks that have not yet been embellished.  I am going to send one of them in the Round Robin Block on the Crazy Quilt Mailing List.
