Diane's Jacket

This outfit was my first commissioned piece made for a co-worker.  Diane wanted an elegant outfit for our office Christmas party.  We agreed not to make the design totally Christmasy so that it was more versatile.  As she is tall and elegant, the choice of the mandarin collar jacket was totally appropriate.  The design of silk ribbon embroidery cascading down the front of the jacket is original.  My goat was to have the silk ribbon embroidery be elegant and quietly glitzy--a little bit of sparkle here and there.  I think I achieved that goal.  The hardest part was making the design mirror itself--left and right lapels.  I had great fun and my client was a happy camper.

Birdhouse Blues

The idea for the wallhanging is from a Piecemakers silk ribbon embroidery book.  It was a total excuse and an opportunity to do silk ribbon embroidery.  The most fun I had was doing the birds, the butterflies, ladybugs, and ants on the wallhanging.  The frame the wallhanging, I paper-pieced the birdhouses, birds, butterfly, and ladybug.  It was great fun!
